A 1978 law created 27 self governing Communes in Cote 'Ivoire (Communes de plein exercice), alongside Sous-Prefectures, dividing each of the Departments. The Commune, (titled a collectivité territoriale), is administered by a Municipal Council, presided over by a Mayor. The Department (also a collectivité territoriale) is governed by a General Council (conseil général) presided over by a président. The sous-préfecture ( an administrative subdivision, or a circonscription administrative déconcentrée) carries out limited functions, overseen by an appointed sous-préfet who reports to aPréfet appointed by the National government at Departmental level. Thus each Department contains both an elected government (a collectivité territoriale) and an administrative officer of the central government (a circonscription administrative déconcentrée). The powers of these two entities, and the administrative bodies which they control, are strictly separated under law.1 The departments are listed below, by region: Contents 1 Agnéby Region 2 Bafing Region 3 Bas-Sassandra Region 4 Denguélé Region 5 Dix-Huit Montagnes Region 6 Fromager Region 7 Haut-Sassandra Region 8 Lacs Region 9 Lagunes Region 10 Marahoué Region 11 Moyen-Cavally Region 12 Moyen-Comoé Region 13 N'zi-Comoé Region 14 Savanes Region 15 Sud-Bandama Region 16 Sud-Comoé Region 17 Vallée du Bandama Region 18 Worodougou Region 19 Zanzan Region 20 See also 21 References 22 External links Agnéby Region Adzopé Department Akoupé Department Agboville Department Yakassé-Attobrou Department Bafing Region Koro Department Touba Department Bas-Sassandra Region Guéyo Department San Pédro Department Sassandra Department Soubré Department Tabou Department Denguélé Region Madinani Department Minignan Department Odienné Department Dix-Huit Montagnes Region Bangolo Department Biankouma Department Danané Department Kouibly Department Man Department Zouan-Hounien Department Fromager Region Gagnoa Department Oumé Department Haut-Sassandra Region Daloa Department Issia Department Vavoua Department Zoukougbeu Department Lacs Region Didiévi Department Tiébissou Department Toumodi Department Yamoussoukro Department Lagunes Region Abidjan Department Alépé Department Dabou Department Grand Lahou Department Jacqueville Department Sikensi Department Tiassalé Department Marahoué Region Bouaflé Department Sinfra Department Zuénoula Department Moyen-Cavally Region Bloléquin Department Duékoué Department Guiglo Department Toulépleu Department Moyen-Comoé Region Abengourou Department Agnibilékrou Department Bettié Department N'zi-Comoé Region Bocanda Department Bongouanou Department Daoukro Department Dimbokro Department Mbahiakro Department Prikro Department Savanes Region Boundiali Department Ferkessédougou Department Korhogo Department Kouto Department Ouangolodougou Department Sinématiali Department Tengréla Department Sud-Bandama Region Divo Department Fresco Department Lakota Department Sud-Comoé Region Aboisso Department Adiaké Department Grand-Bassam Department Tiapoum Department Vallée du Bandama Region Béoumi Department Botro Department Bouaké Department Dabakala Department Katiola Department Sakassou Department Worodougou Region Kounahiri Department Mankono Department Séguéla Department Zanzan Region Bondoukou Department Bouna Department Koun-Fao Department Nassian Department Tanda Department See also Regions of Côte d'Ivoire Politics of Côte d'Ivoire References ^ Loi n° 78-07 du 9 janvier 1978, portant institution de communes de plein exercice en Côte d'Ivoire, J.O. n° 9 du 23 février 1978, p.348 Statoids - Departments of Côte d'Ivoire External links Map from United Nations World Food Programme v · d · eArticles on second-level administrative divisions of African countries Algeria · Angola · Benin · Botswana · Burkina Faso · Burundi · Cameroon · Cape Verde · Central African Republic · Chad · Democratic Republic of the Congo · Republic of the Congo · Côte d'Ivoire (Ivory Coast) · Djibouti · Egypt · Eritrea · Ethiopia · Gabon · The Gambia · Ghana · Guinea · Guinea-Bissau · Kenya · Liberia · Libya · Madagascar · Mali · Mauritania · Morocco · Mozambique · Namibia · Niger · Nigeria · Rwanda · São Tomé and Príncipe · Senegal · Sierra Leone · Somalia · Somaliland · South Africa · South Sudan · Sudan · Tanzania · Togo · Tunisia · Uganda · Zambia · Zimbabwe Table of administrative divisions by country
