The front cover of a contemporary Bahraini passport The Bahraini passport is issued to citizens of Bahrain for international travel. They are made available through the General Directorate of Nationality, Passports & Residence. This institution, one of the earliest of its kind in the region, first issued passports in 1929.1It was criticized in 1996 by journalist Robert Fisk for its refusal to renew the passports of some Bahraini nationals, thus imposing an effective exile on these individuals.2 See also Visa requirements for Bahrani citizens Visa policy of Bahrain References ^ "Passport - Immigration" (in English).
